Plants of February –  Chinese Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Mollis)

February is the ideal month to meet this wonderful plant in the garden.

It manages to light the shaded garden areas from December until the beginning of spring with its marvellous and fragrant bloom with shades ranging from pale yellow to fiery red depending on the variety.

Very appreciated also for the colours of the leaves during the autumn period.

It is a shrub that reaches the height of 4 meters and from rather slow development.

Hammamelis Mollis loves the fresh and well-fertilized soils, acidic or neutral. Pruning should be avoided as much as possible,  only intervening in order to eliminate the dry suckers that are formed at the base and to contain the plants development.
